1 CSS pixel = 0.75 points
One point is 4/3 of a CSS pixel, so 12 pt is 16 px. Design tools that came from print — and print stylesheets — still speak in points.
Formula pt = px × 0.75

Moving a web design into Word, a PDF or a print layout means converting pixels to points. A 16 px body size becomes 12 pt.
The 0.75 factor assumes 96 pixels per inch. The physical size of a pixel on a real screen depends on its resolution, so use points only for print.
CSS defines 1 pt as 1/72 inch and 1 px as 1/96 inch, so one point is exactly 4/3 of a pixel.
A point is exactly 1/72 of an inch and a CSS pixel is 1/96 of an inch, so points = pixels × 0.75. For example, 16 px is 12 pt.
