1 gram = 0.001 kilograms
A straight factor of 1,000, but worth stating because nutrition labels mix the two freely: sodium in milligrams, protein in grams, package weight in kilograms.
Formula kg = g × 0.001

Move the decimal point three places to the left. 2,500 g becomes 2.5 kg.
Recipes and food labels use grams, while shop prices and luggage limits use kilograms. A 23,000 g bag is the common 23 kg airline limit.
Be careful with the direction: 250 g is 0.25 kg, not 2.5 kg. Also keep grams apart from milligrams, which are a thousand times smaller.
Kilo comes from the Greek for a thousand. The kilogram is the SI base unit, and since 2019 it has been defined by the Planck constant instead of a metal cylinder.
Metric prefixes make this a decimal shift: 1,000 g is 1 kg, so 2,500 g is 2.5 kg.
